I grew up in Nottingham in the 1970s and graduated from university with a degree in Mathematics with Computing. To be honest, I discovered that I wasn’t really very good at maths and I took all the computing options because I found them easier! I was fortunate that this was at the time when computing was a growth industry and coupled with a move to the south of the UK I fell into a long career in IT, as a programmer, support engineer and occasional project manager.
My 35 years or so in IT has been a rewarding experience, but some years ago I felt I needed a change. My experience of counselling, which you can read about here, led me to train as a counsellor. I feel an immense privilege in being able to work alongside people as they make positive change to their lives. I still work part time in the IT industry, alongside counselling.
I am married with an adult son and two cats. Aside from my family and cats, my passion is music. I wish I could play an instrument, but sadly my attempts to master the guitar have failed so far – but I love music of all kinds, especially when performed live. During the summer I attend ‘grass roots’ music festivals, and being in a field in front of a stage with other people with the same love of music as myself feels like home.
